As my thirty year-old son was losing pieces of himself everyday due to an aggressive form of brain cancer, we met an angel along the way. Dr. Patrick Herson is the palliative care physician who tended to Sajun’s comfort and quality of life while facing an unimaginable terminal illness, in the final stages of his short life. Not only did Dr. Herson carve time and space to listen deeply and act swiftly during his visits, Dr. Herson came to visit my son multiple times while home on hospice and offered daily check-ins. Dr. Herson came to my son’s celebration of life and has continued to maintain a relationship with our family. Dr. Herson is a transformative provider, both incredibly skilled and empathetic. It’s true, the hundreds of providers we met along the way were terrific, however Dr. Herson stands out as going above and beyond the expectation of compassionate care. I endorse Dr. Herson with flying colors for this award and only wish every patient could receive such holistic and humane care.
