Minnesota Network of Hospice & Palliative Care is proud to offer "The Basics of Serious Illness and End-of-Life Care" an introductory course focused on topics related to hospice and palliative care. This is a free course available to anyone and is made possible through a Minnesota Department of Human Services Live Well at Home grant.

This course is designed to provide home and community-based service providers with consistent, accurate, and culturally responsive information regarding serious illness and end-of-life care to older adults.

Topics included in this e-learning course are:

  • The purpose of health care directives and POLST (Provider Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment

  • Issues related to serious illness and end-of-life care

  • The benefit of palliative care

  • The role of hospice care

  • Veterans benefits available for end-of-life care

  • Community resources available for talking about health care decisions

  • Skills and techniques to enhance communication with people receiving end-of-life care

  • Establishing professional boundaries
